In just an hour from now, I'll walk my daughter, who I affectionately call "Weeg", down the aisle. I'm not sad...I'm happy. Now don't misunderstand. I'm not happy she is leaving home. I'm not happy that she will not be there everyday. Let me tell you why I'm happy. I remember how much I wanted to be married. I had fallen in love with a wonderful young lady by the name of Lisa Padgett. I didn't do well in college because I daydreamed about being married. Finally, on Dec. 17th, 1983, my dreams came true. I became the happiest man alive.
So, why would I not want my daughter to have the same thing I've been blessed to have? She has found a wonderful, godly man who has chosen to love her and take care of her. He truly is an answer to our prayers...praying that God bless her and bring her the man to whom she'd spend the rest of her life. How can you be sad at having your prayers answered?
Now, the only thing I'm wondering about is this giving away thing. Why do I want to give away what the Lord blessed me with? Why would I want to give away the thing that has been my heart? Why do I want to give away what has cost me SO MUCH MONEY? Nope....I will not be giving away my daughter today. I have agreed to share! Reminds me of what the Heavenly Father did for us. When in need of the only thing that would make us happy, He agreed to share. He sent His only Son into the world. He did not give Him away.... He shared Him with us. Now Christ has gone back to the Father, but we have access because of the shared grace, mercy and love of Christ Jesus.
When you put it like that, it doen't sound too bad to share. I'm not giving my daughter away....I'm sharing! That's my thought on the matter, what do you think?
